I will try locally in Mexico find the harnes & cover.
Obviously they are misinformed. People on here have gotten them just recently. Sounds to me like a dealership that doesn't want to be bothered if they aren't going to make any money on the deal.

Are you sure you gave the correct part numbers? I only got mine from them a few days ago and the parts are obvioulsy not discontinued. I suppose it is possible the part numbers changed. Toward the beginning of this thred I recall one of the parts changed numbers.

BTW the three suppliers I suggested as possibly shipping to Mexico are all different. No two are the same supplier. Many of the GM parts suppliers that are connected to dealers use the same parts search interface so they may look alike.

For those members who need more specific instructions and a good laugh, refer to my post #33. I did a step by step, that includes some humor for those who might be a little leery or are not as mechanically inclined as some of us here.

I can vouch for it's clarity. It is what I followed without a problem.

Well I finally got around to ordering the parts to add the buttons to my steering wheel. I got an email from LakeChevrolet that said my parts have shipped. Delivery is scheduled for the 15th (Tuesday) by UPS.

An earlier post said that some of these parts are no longer available. I just checked Lake Chevrolet's inventory and they say these parts are currently in stock.

Hi I installled my controls the Saturday and everything works perfect.

I just hate working in the Florida Humdity. I had to change my shirt beause of perspiration.

Just a couple of comments about the install. I wast told by the service tech at the dealsership not to disconnect the battery because there may be some issues with the on board computer?? Anyway, there is a fuse panel on the passenger side on the console so I pulled the fuse to the air bag. I didn't pull the fuse on the horn since I didn't think of it and it didn't pose a problem during the installation. The harness is a PITA, just walk away when frustrated, get a soda and come back.

I bought the LS and now with the radio controls and the chrome 17" wheels I'm satisfied and really don't need anymore mods

That's interesting smokindog...I have had my battery disconnected several times with no issues whatsoever. Wonder what's up with that?

That harness being a PITA is an understatement. I finally said the heck with it and cut the old one off and tucked the new one in open space and all is well.

Disconnecting the battery shouldn't pose any problems with the computer, it's quite apparent that whoever you spoke with at the dealership know's nothing about cars. But either way I'm glad you got your installation done and all is well. I'll be doing mine on Tuesday sometime. -Dan

Exclamation Fyi

I have dealt with GMpartsdirect.com, operated by Flow Chevrolet out of N.C and partszoneonline.com ( P&G Chevrolet out of St. Loius, MS) beforeon my old truck and with the new truck, so it was a no brainer to order again from them.(partszoneonline.com) I ordered these parts in July, and they just shipped last week. Should Be here Friday!! I hope they are what I need. I did ask Courtesy Chevrolet here in PHX about a few of these, and I did see the diagram on their PC for the harness and switch. Of course, not stocked. No biggie, cause they are cheaper online!!!!! Gm partsdirect.com was more expensive, which is usaully the case.
Also, I found out that , Gm dealers will not warranty these parts if your invoice does NOT have a dealer name on it!!!!!!!!
So, when you order from gmpartsdirect.com, there really is no warranty on these, but you could probably get it taken care of anyway.
But with sites like partszoneonline.com, it comes from P&G Chevrolet, so the Gm warranty on parts is really still valide.
I know this sounds really stupid, but I geuss with all the aftermarket stuff available these days, Gm has got to find a fine line between actuall failure/defect and modification abuse.
This info was provided by a parts assistant at Peoria GMC in PHX. As I was asking for a part number for my Sierra. We talked about internet sales, and came upon this discussion. He informed me that they have charged people for service, even under warranty, because of a defective part the customer put on their vehicle that they order from internet parts co. when it failed.
He is the one that stated that if the dealer name was on the receipt/invoice, then no problem.
A lot has to do with instrument clusters out of GMC Denali and Cadillac Escallades, as this is a plug and play upgrade to these trucks. For $300 you get a similar cluster, like in the HHR, Chrome and real fancy. Well, some fail. Oops, yur outta luck buddy. That`ll be $750 for repairs!! And had the dealer installed and ordered it, it would be covered.

Kinda stupid if it is the same part number!!!!! Regardless of were it was purchased. What if it came out of a wrecked vehicle and it was factory installed?????

Sorry to be so lnog winded on this. I think the public does need to know about a few issues here and there.
