Hmmm When I go online to search for the parts to do this mod, the switch (part number 15244413) comes up as having been superceded by a new part (part number 15842365) which is about double the price.

15244413 is listed at $12.27 from P&G and the new part 15842365 is $23.23, P&G apparently still has the old part in stock.

GMPartsDirect still has the old part listed at $11.10, but is apparently no longer available from them since it automatically loads the new part number if you click add to cart and the new part is $21.01. And GMPartsDirect warns that all the parts for this mod are special order and cannot be returned

Anyone got any idea what the difference is? I suspect I'm gonna go with P&G

The real problem with getting these components is because they only anticipate x number of HHR's produced will have this option installed. And within this number there will be a small percentage of failures. Based on this they only make a certain number of these components to cover both OEM installation and warranty replacement. Then it's folks like us who come along and screw up these numbers by ordering these components to use as a modification to our HHR. This in turn depleats the stock and makes these parts go on back order. Most of these parts are then diverted first to OEM then to warranty replacement,. For those of us who want these parts to mod our HHR will then be put on the back order list and will get these parts as they become available once the OEM and warranty replacement requirement has been fullfiled.......fun huh :)

Since it seems to have gotten lost in the static

Let me repeat my question:

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two switch units? (old part# vs. new part#)

I believe the part number changed since this thread started...and as far as I know, it's the same part...just a higher price.

Usually when a part number is changed it's because they are coming from a different source (component maker) to the manufacture. This also normally changes the price. This happens a lot with component makers who make parts for manufactures. Sometimes the original contract simply expires and is not renewed, or if it is, the component maker changes the price to the manufacture who in turn passes this along to the consumer. The parts are usually identical since no matter who makes them does so based on the specs provided by the manufacture. I used to run into this a lot back when I was an aircraft flight instrument mechanic. They were alway's switching suppliers and prices varied a lot as well.

Well, it took 3 weeks to get the parts and about 15-20 minutes to put them in and everything works great. I followed Deb's instructions (without having to smoke or chill out) and they were right on.
