Before I commit to purchasing this mod only one person so far has had problems installing the control? Here are my only questions I have.

1.Do I need to disconnect the battery?
2.Leave the battery connected and remove the fuses for the airbag and horn? If you pull the fuse for the airbag does the CPU needs to be reprogrammed?
3.When I do order parts I should expect they will be on back order?

When I did mine I followed the "now famous instructions for Deb" and did not unhook the battery or remove any of the fuses. I had no problems although I must admit I was a wee bit nervous while cutting out the old harness, didn't want to cut the wrong thing. I do not know the current status of the parts, I have read that the harness is on back order for several other users who are trying to do this modification.

Ditto, except I didn't cut the old harness, I moved it around and fished it out with a very small screwdriver. Took longer to unplug the big plug in the middle than anything else. All buttons work, lights up at night, turn signal cancels work, MUTE works (for those all important conversations with the wife!!!!) and looks great. Great mod for around $55.

In answer to your questions

1. That is purely an option...I did it because I didn't want the horn honking while I was doing this, since I was a newbie at this sort of thing. Plus I did it in my boyfriends driveway and I didn't need all the damn neighbor dogs barking their a$$es off.
2. Again, that is an option and should not require reprogramming. As you saw in my how-to, I disconnected it which shuts down the whole car...and I needed no reprogramming when done.
3. It looks like one part will be on backorder. What we need to do is to get Wackaloon to share with us where he says he can get the parts...and cheaper. Hey wackaloon...we need links here my friend.

BTW...for the new folks to the thread...detailed instructions are on post #33.

Deb,

The F-Switch was originally part# 15244413 and was superceded by 15842365.

When I tried ordering the original part #, it came back as superceded with the higher price.

Sorry for the huge delay but I had to wait till all the dust settled.

Here's what happened. I ordered my parts and it took almost a month to get them because of the huge back order log. When they finally got here, two of the parts were wrong. They sent me the wrong harness and cover. I called the place I ordered them from and they said because of the backorder situation they had no idea how long it would take. Anyway, since it was their fault the salesman was willing to go out on a limb. He said if I could get him a VIN from an HHR that came stock with this option and is in service, he would use that VIN to tell the system it's a failed part with a customer waiting for warranty repair. This in turn would put a priority on the order and he could expedite it to the head of the list. Once the parts arrive he could then cancel the warranty repair order. This would then put these parts in regular "in stock" status and he could use them to fill my order. I just talked to him and the parts shipped yesterday.

Karen, thanks again for the use of your VIN. -Dan
