2011 hhr with out ap3
I have been reading the posts. Has anybody sucessfully been able to get their 2011 remote start working? I just purchased a fleet vehicle and it is not working, the dealer tells me they cannot make it work without the ap3 code.

to the forum hhrseatoy, and congrats on your new ride!Unfortunately, after the end of the 2008 model year, no AP3 option means...no remote start. You'll have to look at the aftermarket for a remote start kit, some folks here have used ones made by Viper but there are tons of choices.

Thanks, I just got the 2011. We have had 2006 ( 1st one on the lot) and a 2007 and we are both very happy with them. All 3 2LT's. I was very dissapointed when I got this one last week and found out it didn't have remote start. Was not aware of the fleet vehicles not having it. Oh well live and learn. I will have to get an aftermarket remote starter.

Also you dont have to change and reprogram a new keychain fob...use the original one....press the lock button once....then within 2 seconds press the lock and panic bottom together and it will start and run for 10 minutes...the only way to shut it off though is with the key.....

this is for hhr equiped with a automatic trans....I think your into a different situation with a stick shift...

But check the label in your glove box, they may have not given you both remotes (1 with, 1 without seems to be standard new car). Also check for the extra wiring to the hood latch mechanism (not the air bag sensor). You could have it but nobody knows.

just because the HHR doesn't have the AP3 option doesn't mean it does have remote start! if you look back at the first page of discussion you would see that all the AP3 option is a pressure switch under the hood that tells the BCM that the hood is closed so that away you dont start the car with the hood up.

They seem to have changed a lot of the electronics since 2008 model. I swear my 2011 has an old fashioned blinker noise instead of through the radio. And my 2008 (rental) had to have the BCM re programmed to get the TPMS reset working, which also made the (without) AP3 trick work
