HOW TO: bypass valve spring replacement

This is my "how to" on how to replace the bypass valve spring. If you are having intermittent boost issues like I did, its the cheapest place to start.
this might be easier than an oil change

1. purchase a new (I chose stiffer than factory) BPV spring. mine was $13 with shipping from dejon powerhouse.

2. open hood, remove the intake tube(from airbox to turbo) by loosening 2 clamps at both ends

also you will have to remove a braided line that attaches to the tube. you just release the little clip, and the hose should slide off(with some difficuly in my case

3.remove the 3 bolts on the bypass valve

4. mine looked like this when i pulled it out....remove boot and factory spring

and you end up with this

5. put new spring and boot back on

6. re attach the BPV cover with the bolts. this part is tricky because the new spring wants to pop out...I hand tightened the 3 bolts while holding the cover. then cranked the bolts down with a ratchet.

7. re attach the intake tube, tighten the 2 clamps and re attach the braided hose

thats it! about a 15 to 20 minute project for me.....smaller arms may save you a few minutes...

so far this has solved my boost issue where I randomly see 12-13psi at WOT instead of ~19-20psi

Nice write up. When I replaced my stock one with the Forge unit, I found it easier to use a 1/4" drive ratchet. Then final turn with a box end wrench.

I should tell everyone that I used a 10mm socket for the bolts...1/4'' drive ratchet is exactly what i used.. thanks fireman and old blue

edit: and i realized that to replace the whole valve wouldnt be much more work....
