Perhaps patience is required at this time for us non-Canadian members..

 

If they have started the recall there then it will soon be available for us , especially since other models with the same motor are already being taken care of.
If you have this issue then change it yourself and as said before "keep all the reciepts" cause you'll be getting reimburst here soon I'd say.

I'm new to the forum and I have the same power steering problem with my wife's 2007 HHR. A local dealer has the part in stock and I plan to pick it up today. I just have a really dumb question if you don't mind. How important is the right torque for this part? I don't have a torque wrench, but I'm willing to buy one if I need to. I know 14 ft lbs isn't much torque, so will it be okay to just get a snug fit as long as I don't over tighten?

Thank you so much for posting this, Hubby picked up my new part at the dealership for about $104, he replaced it himself this morning in under an hour and we have made a couple test drives and so far so good....

Yesterday I was backing out and in mid turn PS went out and I almost got smeared in my street (cars were double parked and an idiot was zooming)... urgh!

Mine acted up the 1st time 6 months ago.. never happening again, but these past 2 weeks it happened at totally random times...

 

Is this a part that we have to keep spending $$$ on every 2-3 months? I have mine almost paid off... urgh

 

The new part should be the upgraded replacement unit, so to answer your question, No you should not have to replace it again.

Now if you turn the wheel a lot without the car moving it will go into a thermal shutdown mode. Once it cools it should come back to normal. Do you turn the wheel without the car moving much?

 

Well the date on my replacement was the first post 8/15/10 and 14 months later mine is still working fine. After the replacement, I never had another issue, the power steering message has never come on again, and everything is working great.

 

I just replaced my motor with one from a salvage yard. $48 including tax. It was labeled a Denso so I'm thinking it was a replacement motor anyway. By the way the salvager gave me the whole steering column! What do I do with those? It's the gear box, control module and columns sticking out each end!
It worked great for the 400+ miles I drove it yesterday! :)

 

Thanks for the great pics on the motor replacement. I feel very confident that I can take care of this myself. One question. Did you go through a local dealer to get the replacement motor or did you find it online? Having difficulty finding it on line.
