Thank God for u guys and this forum. My HHR's power steering just started acting up last week (107k on it now). In no time at all it went from a sporadic failure to happening every few minutes. Fortunately, power steering is not such a crippling function; still, what a pain!
I followed the clear and easy instructions and photos posted earlier and in less than 45 minutes I was successfully test-driving my car.
FYI: I didn't want to wait days for the kit to be delivered, so I called 3 of the Chevy dealers in my area, and would you believe it? I got 3 different price quotes varying from $104 to $175. So shop around people, it'll be worth it.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS!!!

Is there an after market part # for this.
Or is it only dealer part?
I am just this week starting to have an issue,
with my 06 with 140,00+ on the speedo.

I never saw a aftermarket one but one of your local dealers should have one in stock and so far it seams most are about the same just over $100 cost. Some have even reported having one installed by the dealer for about $150.

These are the 4 part numbers that will work in place of your stock unit.

Just for another part number source here are the replacement motor part numbers listed in the Canadian HHR specific recall :

19257876 and 19257875

The recall says either or of the above for the new part number. Also this one is for the Canadian ION's (03 to 07) as well.

For the Cobalts, G5's, Pursuit (no mention of Malibus, thought I saw them mentioned somewhere before) they list 4 part number options for the new replacement part(s) :

20995579 and 19257136 both said to have the cone shaped oil slinger on them and to not damage this part

the other two numbers are the same as the two listed for the Canadian recalls listed above.

][/QUOTE]

Again any one of these 4 will work in our cars.

Oh and also get it done very soon as it will only take a week or two to start happening every time you drive if it is not already doing just that.

For me the first occurance was on a Wednesday. Then it did not do it again until Saturday. Then it happened on Monday several times. By Wednesday it was happening every drive long or short and even happened 2 times while driving the 15 minute drive to the dealer to get one plus had happened an hour earlier which is what prompted me to go the dealer on that day lol. That drive that prompted me to go to the dealer was only 1/4 mile from my house.

Thanks everybody for the great info, it was done in less than an hour. Local dealers had it for $104 and problem solved. My 2008 HHR first got it last week at about 54000 miles.

Urgent!! Please help!

Hello everybody,

I am from Bulgaria and own a 2008 Chevrolet HHR LT 2.4. I have the exact Power steering problems as many people here. I have read through all related posts here. I am certain that the the fuse fix does not apply as I've had power steering issues a couple of times prior to jump starting the car. So my car dealership that also does the replacements/repairs told me that it would cost roughly around $1600 to order a new motor and an electonic steering column ( please excuse me if the translation in english is off). That's not including labor. I have some questions that need answering.

Firstly, do i need the steering column as well - from what i've read, people replaced the motor only?
Could you please provide me with a link as to where I could orded those from? i believe that ordering both myself would cost less than $1600, shipping included.

The part number (model?) they have provided are:
model of the electronic motor - 19257876
model of the electronic steering column -19209159

Please help me !!

Thank you!

I realize my questions could sound stupid, but this is the first car i've owned and I don't really know much about cars. That's why I need your help.

Thank you!!!

After just spending $400 for new brakes on my car , the power steer went out on my husbands HHR (literally the next day). Needless to say he was not happy about the possibility of spending $300 to fix his car. When I came across this post I convinced him that it would we a quick and relatively cheap fix. With your directions I was able to change this by myself in about 40 minutes.
I am not even sure you are still on this site, since this was posted almost 3 years ago, but I wanted to say thank you just the same.
Thank you!!
