Update #2

I purchased the Case & Keypad described in the Amazon link in post #30. In the 4 months the remote has been in use, the wear on the button legend is worse than the GM button was after almost 4 years of use. The buttons still work fine.

Thank you all.
My remote gradually died. Cleaning contacts and fresh battery did not help, so it was relegated to the kitchen junk drawer.
It's now back on the key ring after putting in aluminum foil dots on the pad.
Thanks!

Another Fob Fix

GM has a problem with their key fobs...I too had the same problem with getting the fob to work...didn't want to pay the extreme price for a new fob so started searching the net....stumbled on "KeyLessFix.com". I was a little skeptic but gave it a shot. Works amazingly good. I have been using it for 2 years now with no problems. I recommend this quick and easy fix. No glue, no knifes, just insert into the fob and go! An inexpensive repair. I even have the parts person here recommending it to other customers (on the DL).

How to fix key fob contacts if they have worn out

If your key fob still works when you put some metal on the contacts, but the buttons themselves don't work, here is a simple fix.

I used some foil from marlboro smooth cigs. it is paper thin. you can use anything similar. I am not sure if any other smokes have this metal foil on them though.

I have extra. Will give out for free if you pay postage ($.50 at most)

I will also do this for free if you pay shipping of your key fob to me and back to yourself.

This was done over a week ago and so far it is working great. I am so happy to have my key fob working again. To me this was free, since I smoke these anyway. I am glad I did not buy that $12 repair on these.
