British Bloke living in Canada

Ive been looking at the HHR, panel van, and Ive seen a few for sale for a 2009 2.2 auto panel van with 20,000 KMS for $10k and less,

Sounds like a good deal to me, Ive got a old suburban that ive been using since i came to Canada 16 years now with 350,000KMS and wanna retire the old beast.

I want a smaller vehicle that, I can move some stuff around in carry some tools. I drive 2K a day, to work and back. I guess you guys could be a little bias cause this is a HHR forum but, for the money, it seems the answer,

I have no kids, a wife, and a dog so seating isn't a priority, so Im asking and I guess I could look around the site, but there seems to be a bit of a following for these HHRs there quirky cool looking, anything I should look for in a used one?

to the forum!

The most important thing is to look into the vehicle's past, run a CARFAX history report on it. While the reports can miss some items, they are a good way to weed out HHR's that have suffered major damage, or have been used commercially.

This thread by my fellow Moderator whopper is really a must read on the HHR's quirks, problems, and correctable weaknesses.

And yes we're biased, but these are amazingly useful little trucklets, and you'll really enjoy owning one.

Welcome Britjoe - We use ours to haul the hound around a fair bit too, often 2-3 hour trips, with the dog slobbering all over the back window. LOL

We've found it pretty much the perfect size for the weekend luggage, supplies for the weekend, and the hound. The rear hatch goes low enough for the dog (100 lbs) to jump in on her own, but the rear bumper top does get the odd scratch on the top side from her nails - the GM bumper top protector is way too small really to give full protection.

Maintenance on the car is pretty much normal or better than normal compared to other vehicles I've owned. If you get one with low miles you should get many good years of service from it.

Keep us posted on how you do with it.

cheers

Amen to this, larger dog...same problem. Can't find anything that would protect a large enough area. Thought about skateboard griptape, but it would probably look horrible...lol.

Anyhow, I love my HHR. Took it on vacation the day after I bought it. Just me, my girl & my dog. In my opinion, It's nearly perfect as far as size goes. Fits all of us comfortably, including all of our snowboarding gear...and I don't even have a roof rack yet! It's been on numerous trips since and is both economical & comfortable. Once I get a nice rack (), all the gear can go up top & free up gobs of room.

You will not be disappointed, it's a great, versatile vehicle. I bet tomorrow can't get here fast enough huh? Enjoy the new ride!!
