There's a link in my signature to check your recall status. Donbrew has a link also.

Not sure if the power steering would show up, as it was not a recall for most model years, but an extended warranty.

When fittting the new motor I`ll check the chamfer design. As I wrote I took the motor out a few days ago - and ther was an oil seal on it.
Can someone please confirm that my HHR is a 2008 model ( VIN 3GN DA5 3P0 856 306 48 ) or provide a link where I can check. And is there
an online possibilty to see if recalls may have been done previously - perhaps the EPS motor has been done in the past.

Well next Wedenesday the new motor should be here. Hope that resolvess the problem. Not using the HHR at the moment because of snowfall and
have already swapped the winter-tyre set to the summer set.

Kind regards Simon
The model year is the 10th digit of the VIN yours is 8 meaning 2008.
The VIN decoder is up at the top of this page under the "Tools" dropdown. If you don't see it go to the bottom of the page and click on "full site"

The 4th and 5th digits should be either A1 (for LS) or A2 (for LT). The first 2 digits are possible nothing else is a HHR not even Chevrolet.

The problems with the supplied VIN are the spaces need to be removed, and the 5 that's after the 8 is actually an S. Then the VIN decoder in the "tools" drop-down works perfectly.

SORRY !!! My fault !! I mistakenly inserted a 5 instead of an S - so this is my correct VIN, w/o gaps 3GNDA53P08S630648

Thanks to everyone that looked into this for me +++++ Next week I`ll give it a go and try contacting someone at "GM" here.

Had a look (youtube and here) at the HHR SS - that sure is a very interesting "MPV". Will carry on woking through the tremendous amount of
information published here.

Thanks and have a great weekend Simon

Oldblue - change the 5 that's AFTER the 8. You changed the wrong 5.

I believe 2008 would be covered by the "Special Coverage" (service bulletin 14119) and not the recall.

The recall is Bulletin No. 14115B.

Note that both documents are unequivocal. The condition is sudden loss of power steering. The remedy is a new power steering motor. There's no requirement of diagnosis or proving that the problem is the motor.

The SB can be downloaded at https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...90453-2280.pdf

IDK if it's the latest revision. Here's a screen shot of the first page:
