Hello. New HHR owner here

I just bought a 2009 2LT HHR with the 2.4 engine. Great car. I have a few questions.

The stability control. Do you just use it on rainy days or do you leave it on all the time?

The long term reliability: do these cars hold up well? I've had great luck with GM cars before, I still have a 1987 Firebird with 130K, and a 99 Chevy Lumina with 93K. These cars have only required regular maintenance other then water pumps on both (that's my one complaint about GM vehicles they always need water pumps)

The HHR has 23099 and is going to be my wife's daily driver. They seem to get good crash test results. We have a three year old, and God forbid they are ever in a wreck, I want something that will keep them safe. Anyone have any experience on this?

Anyway, thanks for reading. This looks like a nice forum and I look forward to posting here. I will have my wife upload some pics of the car. It's a red HHR (hence the SN) with the chrome package and Pioneer speakers.

I also meant to say that this car drives much smoother then the Toyota Corolla we traded it for, and no sticky gas pedals either.

Can't comment about the stability control, not available on the 06. I've had my HHR for 5 years now with no major mechanical issues, but others yell "lemon" about theirs. Several members here can tell you first hand that the 5 star crash rating is well deserved.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for posting this in the wrong place. Sounds like the HHRs are good cars. Every make and model will have a lemon here and there.

Just judging from my past experience with GM cars, I feel good about this HHR.

Love mine-2009 LS. Besides the great space I bought it also because it will give it's life to save yours! Don't forget to strap the kids seat down-the anchors are in the little cubby bins behind the back seat.

Safe Driving and enjoy the ride!

We drove it about 50 miles today total. It amazes me the gas mileage this car gets. Not QUITE as good as the Corolla we traded with a 1.8 engine, but darn close, and 10 X more fun to drive.
