The second post I make is my introduction. What can I say, I'm from Indiana...
I bought a 2008 HHR LS with a bad automatic transmission about a year ago from my ex's daughter. It kinda sat for a year while I was busy with other projects- and I didn't really know what I was going to do with it (mainly only bought it so the girl could repair the car she was driving). Then, gas prices went through the roof, so I decided to fix it and see how it does. Not sure what she did to it, but the trans fluid looked like black coffee with some metal-flavored sprinkles. Long story short- $200 for the HHR, $200 for a transmission, and another $100 for odds and ends (trans fluid, filter, various bulbs, etc) and I've got what seems to be a pretty reliable gas saver.
It's not going to win any beauty contests after having gone through two teenagers, but I kinda like it. Immediate plans are to repair the common stuff that's driving me nuts- like the floppy sun visor, dead speakers, and figure out a repair for the broken molded-in "rods" on the glove box. I Also plan to put new tires on as soon as I can decide which factory GM wheels I want to go with (currently has steelies with no hub caps). I'm kinda liking the 10-spoke Saab 9-3 wheels.
My other vehicles include a lifted 2000 Excursion on 38's and a 96 Blazer LS that's getting ready to have a solid front axle swap. I get away with this kind of stuff because I'm divorced, haha.
I've found so much great info here that it gets hard to find something to post about that I haven't already found from searching the site.
I really like the look of the Saab 'split spoke' wheels, although, they are a difficult find as they were only produced for 2 years (06 & 07)
