Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster

Hello people. I joined this fine bunch of folks a few years ago and have yet to post (that I can remember). That's because I had nothing to post about.

That may change soon however. I need a DD and have been shopping HHRs. I found this relatively low mile 2010 LS relatively nearby. Looks as good as the pics......from 30 feet. It's got some curb rash and pretty deep clearcoat scratches but nothing I can't handle.

Used 2010 Chevrolet HHR LS For Sale in Austintown OH | VIN: 3GNBAEDB1AS611476

I test drove it (first time behind the wheel of an HHR) and it fits me incredibly well. there are however a few things I'd have to get used to.

Rearward view from the inside mirror....can the headrests come out when not needed?

Numb feeling clutch and shifter...could get used to it but are there replacement bushings or anything for the shifter or shift mechanism? how about a short throw shifter?

Ugly wheel covers and rusty wheels behind them.....rusty looking wheels are not hard to deal with but the wheel covers are certainly not my cup of tea even without all the curb rash.....does anyone besides Wheel Vintiques make solid steelies with 5x110mm bolt pattern?

About me....
60 year old kid
I've worked in the automotive aftermarket for the last 21 years
I see vehicles as how they can look with nicer wheels, nicer paint ect. not how they look before I buy them....it's a curse I tell you

Welcome!

It is dangerous to remove the head rests, they do pop off if you push the button. Don't let anybody ride without them. Figuring out how3 to adjust the gooseneck on the mirror helps alot.

The parts for the clutch can be a problem. The pedal tends break loose from the firewall, and the bushing can fail. Last I heard the repair parts don't exist.

I have posted before. It was years ago, just never did the introduction.....bad forum etiquette! Thanks for the heads up on the clutch pedal. That gives me something to think about.

I was however, referring to the sloppy feel of the shifter more than the clutch. It just doesn't feel connected to anything. It does it's job adequately but compared to the other front wheel drive manuals I've driven, it feels like a wooden spoon in a bowl of jello.

I don't have one. The shifter is attached to the trans by a cable, that may be what you are feeling.

The 5 speed shifter has a dual cable setup. Sounds like the one you drove may have some worn or broken parts in the shifter itself.

This bushing kit might cure the issue.

Looks like great info in the posts above, so I don't have anything to add except to say, why so long...we don't bite...honest.
