New HHR SS owner
Hello All,
I was sick of hearing my wife complain that her Mitsubishi Outlander (4Cly) was gutless and "boring" to drive you I did some research and found that the HHR SS was one of the best bangs for the buck around in my opinion. We test drove a 2009 and was very impressed with it's handling, acceleration, cargo space and gas mileage but couldn't come to a deal since they would not negotiate from the 23k asking price. So we drove 1.5 hours to a small time dealer and after hours of negotiations we ended up getting a 2008 Blue HHR with 4.5k on the clock. Carfax verified no accident. I looked over the car in great detail and not one mark on it. Apparently the pervous owner got into a ATV accident because he was forced to sell it because he had surgery on his left leg. We ended up getting it for 14K plus Uncle Sam's portion trading in the Outlander. They actually gave us 3G's more than what we owned on the Outlander but I think the owner was pissed because he didn't know it was a manual until after we closed the deal. Apparently manuals are much harder to sell. Not looking to do anything more than a tune.
I drive a 1998 Firebird Formula (LS1) with cam, stall, nitrous etc when it's not raining or snowing in NY which is not often. The car runs 10's on the juice and 11's without in the 1/4.
I am impressed that some of the HHR SS owners are getting low 13's in the 1/4 with just a tune and some drag tires. There is one that I saw at the track that I saw run a best of 14.2 at around 99 mph stock. Most of his runs were high 14's because he said the car is hard to launch. I probably won't be taking the car to the track because I don't want to break it but it's cool to know that with just a tune the car has the ability to trap over a 100 mph in the 1/4.
I'll post pics sometime soon.

Firechicken, congrats and welcome, I'm new here as well. Not an SS owner but still love my 09' LS so far. Everyone I've talked to over the last 2 years has only had great things to say about this vehicle. My HHR is for getting around, it will not see the track, that's what my ZX-14 is for...

Welcome Firechicken!
I am a big Firebird fan myself, having had 7 of them over my life. Still have two, my 70 & 73 Formulas...
I love this SS, and I'm sure you will too. I'd say you got a great deal on yours... It doesn't have the grunt and roar of a Pontiac or Chevy V8, but it is pretty quick and gets a lot of looks at the gas station!
