Good idea, but I think I'm just going to go for it. Before ironworking I was a steel fabricator, so I think I can pull it off without a problem. Worse comes to worse this isn't my only car, so I wouldn't be stranded if I did NEED to get a replacement. Thanks for the advice George, will let you know how it works out for me.

I’m not quite 6’5” and the sunroofs are trouble for me, but 2 of my 3 HHR’s have that, because I liked the cars. I’m used to scrunching down.
Someday soon I’ll compare seat height in: cloth manual seat, leather electric seat, SS performance seat, and maybe the cloth electric seat from my old 2008 LS if the new owner will let me.
Seriously thinking about George’s mod, thinking about where I can borrow a brake press, or maybe I’ll just draw the bar up and get it made.

This is what I've come up with so far. It's crude, and haven't been able to fit to the car yet, but not too hard to make. It's 1/2" steel, and I think I may go down to 1/4" on the final version. All you need is a torch, a vice(or strong clamp), and something to drill holes.

Looks good. What I used was a piece of L bar. Left the "L" part in the middle and and cut it off the sides where I needed to make the bends. I was thinking the bar would be more rigid and straight in the middle. The trade off is reduced space under the seat. If you have back seat passengers, I think it would limit where they could put their feet.
Here's a mock up with paper to show what I'm trying to explain.

I think since I've had the car the only person that's been in the back is my son, he's almost 4 and sits behind the passenger side. This is my DD and the interior kind of takes a beating from me working in the elements. Try to keep it halfway clean but it's quite a chore. Thanks for your guidance on this subject. If I hadn't gotten your pics, don't think I ever would have tried this. Will get some pics of final piece before paint/install and post them up on this thread. Thanks again George 👍
Hardest part was trying to keep the bottom wide enough for the seat rails to fit, bends had to be fairly extreme. That's why I was thinking of going to 1/4" steel plate instead of 1"2.

Yeah. Know what you mean about getting it to fit. Not sure how many times I did a test fit and had to tweak it. Over and over. Making a custom part is a lot of trial and error. I seemed to have had a lot more errors than I should have.
But the finished product was just what I wanted.
