Zinc is silver, but not shiny. Think galvanized steel, coated in zinc. Chain link fences, roofing nails, etc. It won't hold a shine if it's Zinc. It will oxidize in normal exposure. Gray is the color, not silver.

Cat Man- no clue about plug nickels. Haven't even heard that term in ages. LOL
Blue-SS - You are right, I stand corrected. The coin referred to is extremely covered in a dark patina, but an area of Lincoln's head looks shiny. And I'm told the coin seems soft. IDK ?
