Barry Bonds Closing in on Home Run Record
once again, until he is proven to be at fault...there is no proof. if there is no proof, the man deserves the dignity he has earned. if it was a white player and congress/media went after him this much, ppl would have already asked to leave the guy alone.
in fact i do not remember McGuire receiving death threats when he was breaking records. McGuire looked more like a juicer than Bonds. i remember McGuire when he was with the A's and a few years later he was a behemoth. Bonds on the other hand has always looked like he was improving from year to year...instead of an overnight success

I saw Hank Aaron break Ruth's record (more games, more at bats no dead ball era) see there were detractors for that run too. Bonds has been vilified for steroid use ( he was never penalized by the league) Baseball is a business, baseball as a business benefitted from steroids by home run chases like McGuire vs. Sosa Bonds for 73, etc. and now they have been savy enough to use their "battle" against steroids for the sake of baseball as their latest marketeng ploy...Baseball, like all professional sports is just business and this idea that a record or the sport has been tainted is just more subject for sports shows and colunmists...Babe Ruth loved to party, drinking, eating and womanizing, Ty Cob was just an A**hole, Pete Rose was a gambling, jerk who still thnks that because he could swing a bat that he is above scrutiny. Baseball has never been squeeky clean, except maybe early in little league and now parents and coaches are ruining that by cheating so they can use little league as a vehicle to the next level...Bonds will break Aaron's record and then immediately the sportswriters will start hard selling Alex Rodriguez and his chase of Bonds, I wonder if the sportswriters and fans will remember and vilify A-Rod's 250 million dollar contract and the explosion that is fueled in sports...would that sell papers, books and keep us watching? As for me I will have seen this record broken twice and with some luck will see it again...The next story...Can 300 million dollars buy a World Series...Go Cubs...
It saddens me to think that the HR record will be beaten by Bonds as what he has done to get to this point is far worse than any of the exploits of Ruth or even Cobb. Steroids, and other drugs, affects the integrity of the game. Bonds is a cheater. Ruth pounding hotdogs and beer is not cheating. Cobb being a jerk is not cheating.
For those who say nothing has been proven, I'll have to remind them of this. In leaked testimony Bonds admitted taking the "cream" and the "clear". He was just "unaware" of their composition and thought it was topical creams and linseed oil. I'm sorry, that is total BS. A million dollar athelete ingesting an unknown substance? Say what you will about Barry, but he is no dummy.
He'll break the record, and most folks will either not care or be upset. It's high time for the Player's Association (not MLB) to step up and get testing going that not only protects the game, but also the players from the harmful effects of drug use (steroids, HGH, etc...).
Sorry about the rant.
....almost forgot. There are no work out regimes available to increase the size of your skull. Abnormal growth of the skull in your 30s is not normal!

I think you pinpointed it Scaleguy! All pro sports are businesses now, not entertainment. IMO, they've all been ruined by money-hungry athletes and profit-seeking owners. Do all of you understand that almost every product you buy helps support one of these athletes or teams? We're paying their salaries but don't get to see the games. Heck, how many of us can afford to go to a game? I used to watch Saturday baseball on NBC. Now all I see is infomercials. I have to have digital cable or an expensive package to see any game. The "national pasttime" is no longer available to the average fan!
I will admit that I've never liked Barry Bonds but it's not just him. I'm disappointed in all pro sports.
