From Hot Rod Magazine Poll "The Top Car Movies Ever Made and the One You Voted as the Best"

6> Thunder Road (1958)

Director: Arthur Ripley

Stars: '50 Ford, '57 Chevy, '57 Ford

People: Robert Mitchum, Gene Barry

Why: Of all the tales of moonshine running, Thunder Road remains the best, first because it has tough-guy Robert Mitchum in the lead, second because seeing a '50 Ford driven hard is always fascinating, and third because the action is so good you almost forget the movie is in black and white.
Plus the cops have a '57 Chevy that grabs onto suspect vehicles' bumpers.
Filmed on location around Asheville, North Carolina,Thunder Road may not be authentic, but it looks it.

Trivia: The 'shine cars in the film were supposedly bought fromactual runners. And the primary stunt driver was Carey Loftin.

Not exactly a car movie but the chopped + channelled Merc Stallone drove in Cobra was why I watched it.

That's a great car and Brigitte Nielsen was a great passenger.

and the Merc

There's a few more pix of her from the movie here http://fashionblood.wordpress.com/20...lsen-in-cobra/

This is my favorite picture of her but we're not in the dungeon http://cinemaxunga.net/blog/wp-conte...elsen_pefm.jpg

More about the car from http://www.amcarguide.com/uncategori...e-muscle-cars/

"Cobretti’s [Sylvester Stallone] 1950 Mercury is probably the most important thing in the whole movie.
It was formerly owned by Stallone himself and later built for the movie by Cinema Vehicle Services.
They double-scooped the hood, cleaned all extra trim, fitted 383 Chevrolet small block, topped it with nitrous-aided 4-barrel Holley carburetor which also had Weiand 144 supercharger.
The transmission was a 400 Turbo Hydraulic with 4-wheel disc brakes.
A good car to reveal Cobretti’s personality and join this Top 10 list."

Gumball Rally
Best scene...Raul Julia climbs into the Shelby Cobra, rips out the rear view mirror and throws it away, saying "What is behind you is not important."

I had always thought that quote was from Dom DeLuise in one of the Cannonball movies - done in an itailan accent.

"Whatsa behind me es not importont........"

Didn't see these listed, so two of my faves are:

Blues Brothers (so many wrecked cars!)
Death Race 2000 (the original, with Carradine, Stallone, etc.)
