I have to agree with Two Lane Black Top, Vanishing Point, American Graffitti, California Kid, & Heart Like a Wheel.

Le Mans and Grand Prix have been mentioned. They were the first two that came to mind.

Also, if you are a Mini-man the Italian Job (original and remake!).

Probably near the top of my list would be THE ORIGINAL 'Gone In 60 Seconds'. No (understandable) plot, no acting - hey it was written, directed and acted - by amateurs.

But the car chase was fantastic. I'm partial to it mostly because in was filmed entirely in the South Bay area of Southern California - Torrance, Hawthorne, Redondo Beach, Harbor City, Wilmington, etc. - and I lived there at the time. The Mazda dealership where I bought my first car was in the movie. And the cars! Back then they thought nothing of trashing Mustangs, Cadillacs or whatever else they had around. (D.B. Halicki (sp?), whos movie it was, owned a salvage yard in Gardena).

American Graffiti IS absolutely a car movie

I knew someone must have mentioned Ronin in here

Blockbuster Video has a sale going until the 14th.
5 used (under $10) DVDs or Blu-Ray movies for $20
Quantum Of Solace was one of my picks and I watched it last night.
Serious Astin Martin abuse in that one.

Most Bond movies have great car chase scenes and hey! it's a friggin Bond flick! you can't go wrong with Bond. (except A View to a Kill )

The Mischief Rock Set (Street racing from Teckademics) is fun.

I used to own the Plebani-built 4G63t-powered Mitsu truck that's featured in the original Mischief movie.

Hate to burst your bubble, Jay, but American Graffiti (at least the street 'crusing' scenes) was filmed mostly in Petaluma, CA and San Rafael, CA - Northern California. AFAIK, none of was filmed around Van Nuys.
