Carfax reports

Anyone have a carfax they can spare? I am trying to track down an old car of mine and want to see if anyone has one they can spare before I shell out 40$.
Please email me salazarmarcus@gmail.com and I can give you the VIN#

If you think your old ride may still be in Texas, try this link to run the VIN with the Texas DMV.

Can't help you with a CarFax I'm afraid.

I was shown a little trick: Google used cars in your area. Search any site for a car with a free car fax & run the car fax on that car. In the address bar, substitute your vin for theirs and hit enter. If it doesn't work, pick another dealer. Be persistent - it will eventually work. If this is stealing to you, then don't do it. I offer this information for educational purposes only.

Sundance, have you tried that recently? I used to use that 'trick' but it seem that most of the sites that use the free auto check have tightened that up so that the vin isn't part of the url.

It still works. You may have to try several dealers, but you'll find one soon enough. And I'm not admitting to anything!

I tried the DMV site and it just says "none". Im curious if carfax will show if the car went out of the country. After I sold it to my friend, he wrecked it 7 days later at the track. But managed to find a dealership that would let him trade it in on another car. Usually those types of trade-ins go to auction OR get picked up by people from Mexico and brought across the border.

I went ahead and got an autocheck. The report dead ends right about the time the car was traded in to this dealership. It stops at 5/7/07, and nothing is written about it after that.

You have to work for it. Try smaller dealers that might still be on the older format, and maybe different locals as well. Good things come from persistence. But you can always pay the fee!
