Dark Shadows Star has died. Sad Day.
R.I.P Jonathan Frid, you will be Missed.
'Dark Shadows' star Jonathan Frid dead at 87 of natural causes.
The actor was best known for playing vampire Barnabas Collins in '60s supernatural TV soap opera "Dark Shadows".
I remember watching the show as a kid. Loved Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) as the Vampire.
I just recently bought the Complete collection that was limited to 2500 copies in a Coffin and with a personally signed included post card. Release Date was April 10, 2012. 131 DVD's in the set.
A non limited edition is now available, not numbered and no signed post card included.
I pre ordered a month or 2 in advance and I got #1315 of 2500.
I also just won and received today from ebay a small candle stick that was used on the Dark Shadows set in the 1960's with a certificate of authenticity from Ellis Props. A Hollywood Props supplier.

Actual pics of my Dark Shadows stuff.

Sad loss.
Frid to me was the epitome of the Gothic vampire. Tossed into the future in a landscape vaguely familiar, but awash in a society that has left his known world behind. Strange turns of phrase, technology, altered moral values.... everything he knew gone... but still familiar.
Loved the Original Series with Jonathan Frid. Deliciously dark. Turned strange at the end and I lost a lot of respect for the writing and story line.
The reboot with Ben Cross was no where close to attaining the fine art of the original.
From what I have seen of the upcoming Tim Burton version starring Johnny Depp; all of that dark Gothic feel is going to be trampled on with Burton's campy style.
I'll try and keep an open mind... but the trailers and the styles of both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp do not bode well.
