Angry Deb's Car Totaled - Not HHR

Well folks...my Honda that I have shown you guys on the forum, I believe has been totaled. Henry uses it as his daily driver and this afternoon, he was driving it across one of the main roads in town and was involved in a multi car accident. A car that was 2 ahead of him slammed on their brakes causing everyone to do the same. Guy in front of him stopped, Henry stopped and so did the one behind him. Well...lo and behold, the 5th car back didn't. She slammed into the car behind him, who ran into him, pushing him into the car in front of him, and that guy into the guy in front of him. There was a total of 5 cars involved in the accident and Henry was the "meat in the sandwich." He was able to drive it home, however, both the police officer and tow truck driver at the scene said they were sure it would be totaled. The lady responsible for the accident has insurance, so that's all good...but I am just sick about what has happened to my car. Below you will see some photos I have taken of the car in it's present state. Bear in mind that this car was in perfect condition at the time of the accident. In fact, it had just been detailed and buffed on Saturday and the tires were rotated and balanced earlier today. If you would like to see the rest, they are in my photobucket album.

Well Deb, it sure does look totalled. Atleast Henry and the car made it home. Seems like those cars took quite a beating especially if they were all stopped and that last car in line caused all this. She musta really been motoring becuase it takes a lot of force to bust up a bunch of cars like that especially if the cars are at rest.

That SUX Deb!
I'm glad no one was seriously hurt, but still.

A nicely taken care of "OLD" car like that and all it takes is one little accident to bring it to being totalled. In your case, a fairly large accident.
I'm assuming it is high mileage because of its age, and that seems to be the real killer as to whether or not insurance will repair a car or not. The shape the car is in when it crashed comes in after its mileage.

That is one of a handful of cars I lusted for in the 1980's. Most cars from 1975 on were terrible in my eyes, except for a chosen few like the Prelude.

Good luck and do not take the first offer, or the second. Be firm. They will take you for a ride, but from what I see in your posts here, I'm sure you'll take to the battle. To bad its a battle that no one wanted.

Deb,
I'm sorry to hear about that. I assume Henry is OK, since you didn't say otherwise and he drove home. That's really the important thing. From looking at the pictures, I would say the insurance company wil total it, but someone may be able to fix it for you. I don't think I would want to fix it personally, with that much damage.

Deb, sorry to hear about the accident. Hope Henry is okay.

BTW, that's the shiniest wreck I've ever seen!

Henry is fine, physically...but he's just sick about what happened, even though it wasn't his fault. He was just beside himself when he called to tell me what had happened. Hopped in the HHR and headed to his house and was just sick when I saw it...it is worse than it looks in the pictures, if you can imagine that.

I was in the insurance industry for nearly 15 years, so I know what to expect. I'm sure they will total it, due to the amount of damage. It's got 185,000 miles on it, but was in perfect running condition at the time of the accident. I just recently put nearly $500 in it for a new water pump, muffler system and brake work too.

Upside to this, he was going to get emissions test today, so we could renew the plates which expire at the end of the month. Guess, I don't have to worry about that now.

Cops said it would be up to 72 hours before we got a police report with all the info we need, so he's going to have to drive the gas hog until we get this resolved. I'll keep you guys abreast of what's going on as this unfolds. And don't worry, no one is going to pull any crap on me...you can take that to the bank.

Isn't it though? I told you guys he takes good care of my cars. He just buffed it all out last weekend, so it was looking pretty snazzy.

Ouch Deb. I'm glad Henry is ok. My best friend just had the same thing for his 99 civic which had a little over 40K. Due to his low millage and the fact that his car looked like yours they totalled it. The parts are cheap. However the labor and paint is why it would be totalled. That sux to lose a car based on an accident that was not your fault. Cars can be replaced. Parents and love ones cant.
