That concept has been discussed so many times on the Lincoln Mark VIII message board that we(the moderators) had to begin deleting them.

The trunk space is full of electrical circuit boards, and hydraulic lines.
The Lincoln Mark VIII uses computer-controlled air suspension that automatically lowers the car when parked, or at freeway speeds. The vented when parked, or "lowered" signal is tied in with the door switch...imagine if something malfunctioned while the doors were underneath....

you would definately have...disappearing doors.

The funny thing about this is, that is a Lincoln Mark VIII....that link has been posted so many times on our board(I am a moderator over there) that we had to make it a STICKY and delete all the other threads.

Interesting to say the least.

Unfortunately, the trunk is FULL of hydraulic pumps, wiring, motors, and relays, rendering it useless.

And, the factory air suspension vent cycle works in conjucntion with the door switch...if your Mark VIII should happen to "vent" with the doors open, and under the car...you will literally have a disappearing door-car

I am a Lincoln Mark VIII specialist...and they are truely unique and wonderful cars...even without the disappearing doors!

Interesting. I had a similar idea at the age of 14.

Not sure how such a contraption would meet side impact protection requirements...
