Drunken Autoworkers
I saw on the news today that the Chrysler/Jeep workers were drinking alcohol and smoking pot during their break time. I guess that explains why my former Jeep rattled all the time. I suppose we HHR owners are safe due to the fact the our cars are assembled in Mexico.
I work for a Hospital. If I were to come back from lunch smelling or Pot or booze, it would be off for my drug test.
Fail the test, out the door..............
Impaired workers can cost any company major money....... If say someone was to get hurt.
Honestly with so many people out of work a company can pick and chose good replacements. Why should they keep someone on that does these types of things?

When I worked for a summer in a GM Powertrain plant in MI I was often asked to come to the local watering hole with the seasoned vets of the assembly line.
My father, now deceased from liver failure, spent the better part of 17 years drinking his life away while he worked at GM. Was a different world back then.

I have worked in a manufacturing environment my whole life. For the last two decades it was a prerequisite to have a pre-employment drug test. And since one would be operating machinery, it was mandatory to be subjected to random drug tests during employment. For what reason Chrysler had for not randomly testing their employees is beyond comprehension. Probably because of costs since they have so many employees.
I spent 8 years working at McCormick place in Chicago , Setting up booths as a lead union carpenter . I watched as a teamster (guy on a fork lift , Dropped a half million dollar proto type machine Sending the swedish co. back home with no macine to show, He was wasted on somthing, A buddy comes up within 10 seconds, Gives him a bottle to drink. Security shows up and they take him for his pee test.
I see the guy a week later, And ask a good teamster buddy what happen with him and that machine ? He said that the test will come back incinclusive, after 25-30 days , Then the'll retest him , And he'll be clean. With a smile on his face. Magic potion in that little bottle i guess. So i think it's a bit harder to remove a protected union guy than most would think. IMO
