General Intake question
General Intake question
Ok guys/gals I got one for you. I own a automatic 93 Taurus SHO (87K). I took it to the track and ran a 15.5 @ 89.8 then a 15.4 @ 91.2 MPH. The car was completely stock with no mods. I bought a high flow true cold air intake (piped in from the tirer fender well) went back to the same track two days later under pretty much the same weather conditions and then ran a 16.1 @87 then a 15.9 @ 88.5. Now I know there are so many factors that can effect the way a car can run on a given day and maybe there were not enough runs to get a good baseline. However, the car did seem to be a bit softer on launch during the track runs and my everyday seat of the pants feel after the intake change. Gas mileage is the same, maybe even a bit better. Could it be the more free flowing intake is somehow being canceled out because the exhaust is still stock and a higher flow one is needed to get the full benefit of all around performance? It would be great to hear some thoughts on this matter from others.
Your problem could well be due to the MAF calibration being off with the intake. Not familiar with your car or intake, but being a tuner for the HHR 2.4 and others I know that any difference can disturb the tune.
You would be best served asking your question on a SHO forum where others may have specific experience with SHO intakes and tuning parameters.
Good luck! The SHO was a real "sleeper". I had a friend who had an '89 (I think... wasn't that the 1st year?).
