GM is Again the World's Largest Automaker
Buy a GM made in Mexico that pays Mexican labour?
Or a Toyota that pays Americans a good wage to support other businesses in their community?
Or a Chrysler that is owned, mostly, by Fiat?
The whole "buy American" is a bit of a marketing scam these days. The best thing is to buy the best quality vehicle, for the best price that suits your needs. Competition in the industry will keep quality higher and prices competitive.

America can beat the tar out of anyone in anything but government regulation has so stifled industry in the US I'm afraid the good times are over....witness the new California regulations involving automobiles....and remember that the theory of man made global warming has been DESTROYED... http://www.pbs.org/now/science/caautoemissions2.html
This is the kind of regulation that drives industry and manufacturing overseas.
Government Motors might sell a dozen or so more Volts there?
Amazing!! On virtually any site I've been on, threads like this one with a fairly innocuous title like "GM is Again the World's Largest Automaker" always seem to morph into a 'discussion' about why 'American' or 'foreign' cars are or aren't 'better'.
It is time for all involved to grow a apair and understand that the automotive industry is a global industry anymore. Cars and parts are going to be made and built world wide.
The fact is where the home base is and where the money comes back to is what matters.
As for GM being number one is good for brag rights. The truth is profits not so much volume mean something. GM was #1 for years as they sank into bankruptcy.
I really don't see GM as worried as to their global status. I think it just happened with their new globalization of Chevy and sales in China continue to expand.
GM for the most is doing pretty well gobally and it is the North American Market is where they need to increase market shares and profits. This is what is happening but it will take time to see if they can keep it up. THe new products are just now hitting with new GM focus since the Chapter 11. The ATS is the first car done where they threw the old rule book out and it is going to set the tone of many of the future cars we see.
The Malibu that is coming is still under the old rules and was a car they just restarted after the Chapter 11.
We will see many suprising thing from GM and Chevy in the coming 5 years. Things you never expected say like a 3300-3400 pound Camaro etc.

Yeah you are correct. AND I DO APOLOGIZE. I probably have at least contributed to the diversion from the original topic.
Probably only a couple of sane answers, anyhow. The rest express emotion more than wisdom.
Again, sorry for taking this off topic.
Besides the cars are now designed globally so the money over there does get used in product we build here. The Cruze was designed in Asia, North America and Europe. They are selling and building it here and in to countries too. The money they made in China help pay for this car that is being build here in Ohio and sold in great numbers in America. While it could be better there are ways to funnel the money back in in other forms than just cash.
Since I am the one that started this thread, I will simply say I do not see a problem with a thread that provokes discussion, as long as it stays civil and respectful. Everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to that opinion. I have stated mine and other people have stated theirs. I have not argued with people who disagree with my thoughts, and as long as it doesn't turn into an arguing match about who is right, I do not think there is any problem with this thread, unless admin sees differently. My 2nd post in this thread was in response to Snoopy's statement- "Just curious.....at what level of vehicle content would you consider a vehicle NOT American? Or is it just that, for now, GM is an American Company (headquartered, listed, etc. as...)??" Based on his question, I was just explaining my reasoning for why I think what I do. I respect other peoples' opinions, even if they are not the same as mine. Everyone here is free to share their own thoughts/opinions; it don't see a problem with having a discussion, as long as it is not disrespectful.
