Yeah, Jim Waldron is a dealer in Davison, who wanted to buy Pontiac with investors. Sorta like Penske and Serra wanted to do with Saturn.... only they had the chance. GM told Walrdon no way right off the bat.

I would have loved for penske to take saturn and pontiac in a package deal but it wasnt to be.

Penske could have made pontiac a true performance brand and probably been successful with limited production runs.

All I know is on the parts side all the reorganization has been a pain in the ass.

My favorite bankruptcy rumor was amc buying the solstice/sky platform and turning it into the next delorean.

Hummer and Saab should have went long before Pontiac or Saturn in my opinion.

Hummer and Saab still had some value. Pontiac almost had no stand alone models. All of their cars were replicas of another car in the gm family aside from the g6 which was a great car. While my family is huge pontiac fans and it was sad to see them go, They had lost their place in the market. Whos to say it cant be relaunched someday down the road?

Saturn was making strides but the fact that it was set up as a seperate business entity and didnt have the history other gm brands, it was an easy target for the ax. They tried to sell it but it fell through only because a manufacturer backed out. Penske and gm did all they could to get the deal hammered out and up until 2 days before it fell apart they were transitioning people from gm to penske so everybody thought it was a done deal.

The ponitac G8 was a great turn around, while it was based on a Australian concept like the GTO was, it was on the right track. Every magazine review I saw of the G8 gt was comparing it to euro luxury sports sedans such as BMW's. As they said in the magazine's, a great car for pontiac with bad timing.

As far as Saturn goes, one of the best cars I've owned twice. I had far less problems with my new 04 Saturn Ion QC after 5 years then this HHR SS in 6 months of owning. The ONLY reason I even own a GM is because I get the GM discount, if I had to buy new without the rebates and discounts I would have went with a more reliable/better build quality manufacturer for sure.

I agree it was a great car, and you see them everywhere... But wasn't it the same as the Saturn Aura? I could be wrong though.
