GMC Granite Approved for Production
GMC Granite Approved for Production
GM has green lighted the Granite for production. Few details are out but they are working to keep it with the rear hinged doors and concept styling. Look for a 4 turbo to be part of the package.
GM should do well with this if they can price it around $18,000-$29,000 Like the HHR. Keep in mind they may offer AWD and other higher grade options.
FYI the PT Cruzer is stopping production in July.

Saw this too:
*Update: Motor Trend is now saying that it was a bit premature in reporting that the Granite was a go. While MT still strongly believes it will be produced, it has yet to receive the official green light.

not yet, but maybe
General Motors, refuting our report from earlier in the day, says it has not confirmed the GMC Granite for production. The Granite was presented to investment analysts as a concept (Tom Stephens' full remarks below). However, the Granite was also presented to analysts in the context of future production models and product updates.
While we believe that a version of the Granite will eventually be built based on today's presentation and other intel, the bottom line is, until GM officially green lights the project, the Granite is still technically a concept.
Actual text from Tom Stephens' remarks below:
With GMC, we’re looking to build on the popularity of the Acadia and Terrain, to attract a younger demographic to our “Professional Grade” products.
To do that, we need to get out of our comfort zone …
Which is why we asked our advanced studio, in North Hollywood, to design this premium box concept.
This is a segment, that young people really like, but we also found it had wider appeal when it was named “2010 Best Concept” at this year’s North American International Auto Show.
The Granite concept features Flex-doors, which allow great access and great utility.
