Got some bad news about my Mom tonight...

Well life this year seems to be nothing but the highest highs or the lowest lows, with no in between to be found. My parents are up visiting for the weekend officially for the purpose of buying a new Buick for Dad, but there was another reason for them coming.

My Mom's cancer has returned again and things are looking pretty rough. She's been fighting cancer since first being diagnosed back in 1984, since then she's had a double mastectomy and 11 other procedures trying to keep ahead of this damned disease.

She is scheduled for surgery on this coming Thursday in Charleston, they are doing what is called a "Whipple Procedure" to remove a mass from the upper part of her pancreas. This is a major deal and she's looking at about 12 hours of surgery, if the procedure is successful she stands a chance of halting the cancer for 18-24 months or so. I'm absolutely sick about this and I'm sorry to be dumping this on all of you.

Sunflowerhippi, our visit with you and your hubby next weekend will have to be another time, and I'm sorry to let you guys down. Michelle and I will make it up to you, I promise.

For now I'm going to be taking some time to lay low, Mom needs me more now than I need to be screwing around with my cars.

Kev, that deal we're working on will still happen, and you'll get something really great for Stiggz....but I've got to handle this before anything else.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I hope that this surgery works out for her though and recovery is fast.

Sorry to hear this about your Mother, my Mom was a cancer survivor, but something else took her down later in life. I hope your Mother gets past this and it stays in remission for a long long time....... My thoughts are with your family.

Thoughts and prayers to your mom. I've seen some pretty freakin' amazing miracles lately not to believe in the power of prayer: a guy from my church had major medical problems, confined to a wheelchair and was facing major surgery that was either going to help him or kill him. He prayed that he would be able to walk into church six weeks after surgery and he did just that. he needed a walker, but none the less, he WALKED; something he was never supposed to be able to do again. I'm not about to say that it was all due to divine intervention (he would!) because i know modern medicine can work miracles of their own, but the prayers of his community certainly helped! So keep the faith, be strong for your mom and dad and take comfort and solace that it will all be OK in the end.

You have to be strong for your Mom.

I have had a weekly "Chemo Tuesday" date with my Mother in Law on my day off (Tuesdays) since before Thanksgiving. She had bladder cancer that spread from a hole in her bladder to lung cancer & bone cancer. She also has cancer in her female area where unfortunately she has to have a catheter in place to have the urine go into a bag instead of the hole in her bladder. The bone cancer is actually fracturing her pelvis in several places and shouldn't be able to walk-but she is. When she's tired it's a walker-when she's not it's a cane. Still goes down to the apt basement to do laundry. The chemo's are up to 8 hours long and this past Tuesday was a 5 hour blood transfusion. Radiation treatments are common also. They can't open her up because the doctors feel her cancer would spread like wild fire. She still however insists on taking care of my father in law who has stage 4 lymphodema and had a stroke.

If your moms outlook on life is like my mom in laws she should come out ok. All it is is just another battle that you mom will win with the support of all
those around her. Our prayers go out to you .

I didn't add this post to get anyone more down, but added it because I believe the mind can help you through life threatening ordeals. It really is mind over matter & my mother in law no matter how I joke about her, she is a "better man" than I probably could be in her situation.

Gotta love the Moms!
