Greeting From The Promiseland!!! Long Live The King!!!
If you're ever looking for me in August... you'll always find me here during this week...
Angie and myself take our annual pilgrimage to Memphis during Elvis week...
Just thought I'd check in to say hello...
Not only is Aug. 16th the 30th anniversary of his death but also Angie's birthday...

Yesterday when Van Halen was doing their "reunion" press conference, they were asked to comment on the 30th anniversary of The King's passing. David Lee Roth responded in kind:
"If God were real, Elvis would be alive and Michael Jackson would be dead"
I think Ed may have had a slight problem with that since he made a cameo on the "Thriller" album, but hey, Diamond Dave is back!
Since I only live two hours from the King's resting place, my girlfriend has relatives in Memphis, and I *did* go to Graceland College (in Iowa), I really should go pay homage to the King. It's only right.

Isn't that kind of boring, spending every birthday in the same place?
I'm not a big Elvis fan. I actually liked his movies better than his music. But, I spent 4 years in Blytheville AR and Memphis was a 70-mile trip to the big city. We went there often to shop. I passed by Graceland many times but never stopped. I do remember all the hoopla on the 10th anniversary of his death.
Man, I hope I don't die on the toilet. How embarassing!

Went through Graceland with the college marching band in '94 (Michigan State, in town for the Liberty Bowl). Nice place, a little too kitschy for my taste, but hey, I didn't decorate it. Nice room with all of his gold records in it, plus you could buy glass Graceland-bottle Cokes from the souvenir shops (don't know if you still can, though).

We have a great time and so much more to do than just Graceland although the real reason is to pay respect to the King...
Beale Street (where the BLUES never sleeps day or night)
Sun Studio (where rock and roll was born)
Trolley Rides (ride all day for a dollar on historic trolleys)
Memphis Zoo (an amazing zoo - gotta see the pandas)
Mud Island (tram ride over to this living river museum)
Riverboat rides (paddlewheelers take you on a lazy cruise up and down the Big Muddy)
and much much more...
We have a blast every year!!!
