Yeah... that one goes back to WWI (or probably earlier) when, on the 26th of December, Army officers would usually trade places (rank and priviledges) for a day.
That's how I always remember being taught.
My dear wife is often cunfused with Canadian holidays... and I have just as hard of a time to explain it to her... those, and Curling.
