I dont think those will be out for a while, and then take even longer for the price to come done.
But I do think sony makes them for thier laptops, if not I heard they are working on it.

It doubt it will ever happen due to piracy concerns.

The only way to record HD to a DVD recorder would be either with an HDMI or component connection. These are not available and likely never will be due to the RIAA, MPAA and all the other groups that think that all consumers want to pirate their stuff.

You could get a HDTV tuner card for your PC, record with Windows MCE, then burn to Blu-ray dvd burner.

The early HD cards ( last year ) were able to do just that. This year's cards are supposed to be all anti piracy compliant. If you have an HD tuner card from last year and use XP then there is hope. If you use Vista, forget it. Too many rights activation codecs & antipiracy stuff going on .

I can record some HD programmes on my Cocast DVR/cablebox. But only the ones Comcast allows me to. Then I CAN send them out via only a composit ( Yellow RCA ) cable to a recording device. The HD output is only going to be sent out in Standard definition though, and even then , sometimes the DVR will not send out the HD signal , only SD signals from recorded no-HD programmes.

The powers that be have things tightly controlled.

I recently read in EGM that Microsoft is coming out with a Blu-Ray player for the 360 now that HD-DVD is dead. Sony doesn’t care if they license the technology to Microsoft because it's all money in their pocket. Now Sony can not only make money off of the PS3 but off of a 360 add on too. I'm sure they view Blu-Ray players as an entire separate entity of their game systems so it's not like they are providing any of the PS3's technology to Microsoft. They license technology to competitors all the time. How many brands of Blu-Ray players are there out there other than the ones made by Sony?

This weekend I bought a new sony receiver that is ipod ready and xm capable and has 7.1 surround sound. I wanted a blu ray player and ended up going with a playstation 3. IT IS AWESOME!!!! not only does it play blu ray it plays SACD's. Multi channel albums are pretty cool. I even liked the game it came with though I am going to go buy a car oriented game this weekend. The playstation 3 offers the best bang for your buck if you want a high def blu ray player that can do so much more.

Do those tuner cards have component inputs (Y/Pr/Pb)?

The tuner cards I have seen only have coax inputs. Here, most of the HD channels are encrypted so you need a cable box to decode them. Our HD boxes do not send an HD signal out of the coax cable so HDTV tuner cards are of limited use.
