I read someplace, maybe Consumers Reports maybe the local "fish rap", that for the present the best HD signal is still through airwaves. Soemthing to do with total signal conversion.

I believe that to be correct based on a comparison of the same local channels from my rabbit ear antenna and my Dish Sat (which by the way, I hate).

Both methods are displayed on a Mitsu 62" DLP.

Found my way into the diagnostic menu of the Motorola DCT6412 III DVR STB. The Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) shows as fluxing from 15.5db up to 19db and tagged as "FAIR" by the firmware, while the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) is 20 and tagged as "GOOD". I checked every cable outlet (only three are active) and what I could get to outside, everything's tight and secure. I guess I'll ask the cable provider if they can do anything to improve the SNR. I figure it must the ho-hum SNR that is hosing down SD picture quality.

If you have an older place, they may need to install a signal booster inside the house.

Our S/N ratio was horrid until they installed the signal booster.

We have a 60 inch Sony LCD 1080i HD on satellite with 25 HD channels that are also cool , I had the same problem also with my setup until I checked all my default settings and changed them to what cleaned up the pic .

Turns out I was looking at the SNR for the Out Of Band frequency 75.25 Mhz which is apparently used for downloading guides etc. The Inband showed that tuner #2 the digital tuner has an SNR of 35db and rated as "Good."
