I got my second ticket in my HHR

This ticket is just a stupid as the first. I got a tint ticket! I have only got one other tint ticket in my life and it was over ten years ago so it don't even count. It came from a state police officer. They had a road block set up checking out registrations and inspection stickers and so forth. The cop signaled for me to pull over in front of their cars, at that point I couldn't really figure out why. He came up to my HHR and asked me if I knew why the signaled me over. Not trying to be a smart ass I told I had no clue. At that point he proceded to tell me about the NY tint law says that you have to allow 70% of the light throught the tint so you can have no more than a 30% tint on your front windows. Then he took his hand from behind his back to produce a tint meter! Because I have have 70% over the factory 30% my widows measured at 17% light transmission. I have 83% tint. So now I have gotten two tickets in my HHR, both window related. First it was the cracked windshield and now a tint ticket. I wonder what stupid ticket the local police will give me next. Probably a stereo ticket.

There are only two towns around here that use them and I guess the state cops do also. It is pretty much a box with a slot and LCD screen. They slide your window into the slot then light shines through from one side to the other and the LCD reads your light transmission level. Pretty much no way around them in court to my knowledge.

the state police here have the same meters here and use them all the time
when you get your state inspection done they will not pass it if it is too dark as well.

That's right. Just about every city, county, and state cop in TX carries a tint meter.

I read on the SEMA site a while back that they were trying to make a tint check part of the NY state inspection. I don't think the law has passed yet though. It sucks because I hate when the front tint doesn't match the rear so I need the fronts tinted. I don't want to take my tint off and put it back on every year at inspection time.

Here in VA, it's the same. I am almost sure all Police departments have them. I got a ticket a fews years back for the same thing. The judge dropped it when I showed a receit for the tint removal. That sucked!!! I think its looks better when the tint is even all around, but I refuse to pay the $100.00 ticket.

In Cali you're not supposed to touch the front windows period!!! Just a risk we take by tinting the front hoping not to get a fix-it ticket. I've developed pretty good reaction times with my tint. When I see police I ussually lower the front windows until the're clear. It doesn't work too good in the rain.

The cops don't realy care about tinted window in Saskatoon Sask. Mine are tinted to match the back and I have been right beside them at red lights and all the do is look at the car. Lucky me.

I had one tint ticket - I'll never have another.

I don't tint the fronts anymore...
