Inpromptu Moon Pic w/ my Canon SX100IS

No, not THAT kind of moon pic... Get Your Mind Out of the Gutter!

This kind:

Snapped it a little while ago from the back yard, two handed grip, resting hands on top of deck post for some limited stability. ISO 80 setting and 10x optical zoom (max optical zoom for my SX100). Cropped some of the black edges down, as it was taken @ 8mp density. The Image Stabilization did a pretty good job.

Nice pic. That image stabilization does a nice job.

That's the type of camera I am looking for...affordable, a good zoom lens, takes AA batteries, and uses non-proprietary memory cards.

It only uses two AA's, I bought an Energizer AA/AAA charger and four AA NiMH 22 milliamp hour batteries. These NiMH AA's last forever, I've been using the flash quite bit and no low batt icon flashing yet. In macro mode I can take closeups to about 3/4" away.

I found that image stabilation works best when you set it to only stabilize at the moment of shutter activation, instead of leaving it on the default setting which constantly tries to stabilize 24/7. Its one of the menu settings.
