Can I ask what the KW is? Are you powering anything from the cells or are you just feeding back to the grid?
The picture is misleading, it is actually unshaded all day, although the small tree on the right will eventually require pruning to avoid wintertime shading. Even with a W/SW orientation it kicks up over 1.0 KW at 9:00am, peaks arounfd 5 KW, and then is still at 1.6 KW at 6:30 PM, in June it should be up another 10% or so. Amazingly it produces about 200W for a little while after sunset just from dispersed light.

(BTW, someone mentioned being "off-grid", this is tied in with the grid, just runs the meter backwards and builds up credit for higher useage months). To answer the question of cost, after power company rebate, tax credit, roof work, and discount, my out of pocket is about $22,000. The ROI is good, and payback at our useage level and current electric rates is reasonable.

I specifically picked all SunPower products, and there are other less expensive modules (panels) and inverters out there. This was also "turn-key" with the installers handling all paperwork and permitting, so of course serious do-it-yourselfers could do it for less money for sure.
