Off a loading dock! I've always known they were tough cars, but cripes! It does sound like a locked caliper to me, but considering the impact the hub might be damaged too.

 

After taking it apart, the only thing different I noticed was a newer looking groove dug into the rotor, and a little raised part in the brake pad that looks like it's creating it....

 

Could a damaged hub be causing the caliper to lock?

 

See the little metal retainer clip on the pad that crosses over the caliper? Could it be an issue that it's not connected across?

 

It's certainly not helping matters

 

Isn't that the retaining clip that holds the pad to the caliper? I would think, if that is not secure, that applying the brakes would not provide adequate/even pressure on the rotor.

You might want to disassemble the brake pads and check for uneven wear. I guess the amount of wear would not be noticeable if you had very minimal mileage since the "drop". But maybe it would give you a hint. Also check the rotor for a minute crack.

I'm just guessing here.....but if the brake pad is dragging, the chirping noise may be the pad....or that clip vibrating.

 

Hmmm...well I can't seem to get it back on right... And of course my parents are gone to Detroit for the night, so my dad can't help me....

 

See the groove (I circled with a white brush)? I don't remember that being there before, and I look fairly fresh. Well it goes around the whole rotor, and there is a little raised part the same size in the pad that looks like it is causing it....

You think sanding the pad down a little with some sandpaper might help with that? I don't know if it's just coincidence or could be something of concern...

 

A second look at the pad/caliper picture makes me believe the pad is moving. Notice on the bottom, just under the broken "clip" there is, what appears to be evidence of the pad moving.....the lighter tan/brown area, which resembles the shape of the pad. Also the bottom of the bad appears to be embedded in the caliper.

Edit again...have you removed that pad? It apppears maybe a rivet(?) wet through the pad and is scrapping the rotor.

 

If that part of the pad, that caused the rotor groove, is ALL pad material it probably wouldn't cause that groove. IT would need to be something that is alien to the rotor surface, to cause the groove.
