Movie thread
Without giving too much away. It's an Australian film. It's a story of discovery and self awareness. This guy has been locked in a small apartment with his abusive mom for his 35 years of life. Needless to say he has became mentally and emotionally damaged so he is nothing more than a big kid. One day his dad comes home after 35 years which leads to his life changing. He embarks on a solo adventure into the normal world where everything is a new discovery for him and he has to learn and adapt to the situations around him. At first he has no comprehension skills and just repeats the various things he's heard said but he has a knack for saying the right thing at the right time most of the time. By the end of the film he can form sentences and actually convey his thoughts and feelings. It's divided into three acts. The first is dark and miserable, the second is funny but still kind of dark, and the third is positive, funny, and uplifting. The director made awesome used of light and color. As Bubby's life changes and gets more positive so does the film. It starts out so dark, dingy, and bleak but gradually through the course of the film it becomes bright and saturated with color. Plus he employed a unique audio technique. Rather than using traditional boom mics he used two high power mini microphones sewn into the actors wig right above his ears so you hear the entire film just as Bubby does. It is also very music driven because music was a new and joyous experience for Bubby. I highly recommend it to anyone. I just give them a warning that they need to give it a chance and watch past the first act. The first act is so dark and miserable it turns a lot of people off and they never get to truly experience the wonder and joy that the film becomes.
Thanks for the synopsis! Sounds like something to put in the queue.A film shot with binaural sound? Now THAT'S different.
Sound more uplifting than say Erasrehead, which grinds on and makes one afraid to be alive !
Might as well bring my favorite thread back up before it gets too buried.
I picked up E.T. 2 disk with both the CGI fest version and the original theatrical version, Young Guns, and Young Guns II.
We can watch it as a family since it is something our seven year old can watch with us and enjoy. We all watched Poltergiest together a month ago and it really gave her something to think about!
I skipped the young guns releases as well as the Tombstone and other one about the OK Corral that came out.
I recently got into Deadwood on DVD though and am finding more interest in American westerns once more. Also got The Searchers with John Wayne on HD DVD and it looks and sound like I was in the theater in the '50's!
Not your typical John Wayne, a bit darker.
Just picked up Forbidden Planet on HD DVD as well. I hope to watch it this week.
Hi Howdy – I had to result to pasting this in from Word so I could catch up on all my comments and questions on this thread…
Bloodsucking Freaks, really HAD to see it, HAD TO see it again, but then I felt icky, so I threw it away…darn me! I buy em and toss em.
Have you seen Spider Baby – so silly, but I also scavenge on Ebay.
BTW, Boxing Helena – I love it! Too tame for you? I love Julian Sands, ever since WARLOCK, anyway.
The Beyond oh, I was thinking of FROM BEYOND – isn’t the Beyond the really silly one?
House by the Cemetery - love it!
I drink your Blood, is that related to I Eat Your Skin?
Cannibal Ferox – bought on Ebay, not worth it
HAH – we were trying to get the Boomstick edition of Army Darkness CHEAP on Ebay, to add to our collection, and finally found one unnoticed auction for a BROOMSTICK edition..
Orgazmo – Hilarious!
I am crying after finding out about London After Midnight, and knowing I’ll never see it…ever.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0018097/
Have seen Last Man on Earth several times in the last year on TV – and I really liked it.
Were you disappointed at Hills Have Eyes 2? I wanted to see more freaks and more family life, a freaky baby or 2…
Hey, have you seen “My Little Eye”? I watched it knowing nothing about it, no synopsis, and alone in the dead of night… my sub and the rest of the system hauled my hubby flying down the hall – he thought I was being murdered, and I for one was glad to see a friendly face!! It really scared me, but I think it was the overdone sound effects track with all the silences and the Blair Witch camera work.
I love THEM! An old fav for me and never fails me.
Do you watch TCM on Fridays when Rob Zombie sponsors a film or two? I loved his “*****cat Dolls” choice, but not sure of the title, exactly.
Bad Boy Bubby sounds great – I know, I’m sick…
I don’t understand your list of possible remakes – you aren’t kidding?? Many of those are recent, and ARE remade already?? What are they thinking??
I’m subscribing to this thread!!
And, I’m going to STUDY your list!!!

Nope.
They were billed as a double feature back in the day but they are unrelated film wise. I Drink Your Blood is another film that is so bad it's good. It was the first film ever that the MPAA gave an X rating to based on violence alone so that makes it historic.
Definitely not my favorite cannibal film but it taught me a valuable life lesson. Don't get all coked up in the Jungle and torture South American cannibals. Mike is rugged! I love Giovanni Lombardo Radice. He is a very underrated Italian actor. He appeared in Cannibal Ferox as John Morghen during that phase of Italians adopting American names for films released over here. Not to mention Umberto Lenzi is one of my favorite directors.
All of Matt and Trey's films are great!

Highly recommended. It's an odd film but odd in a good way.
On a side note I just picked up The Man With No Name trilogy tonight. I didn't buy the box set, I bought them all individually because the box set comes with the standard edition of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I wanted the collectors edition that runs 18 minutes longer, is a better transfer, plus has better packaging and supplemental material. I'm watching Abel Ferrara's first film Driller Killer right now because my wife refuses to watch westerns. I got her to sit through Young Guns the other night and she tried to sit through Django but burst into laughter when his theme song played. No matter how much I told her Franco Nero is bad ass or the fact that he carries a Gatling gun in a coffin could make her sit through it. I am beginning to think spaghetti westerns are a male thing. I want to find Cut-throats Nine on DVD but it's out of print and expensive. I found it in a spaghetti western ten pack for $10 but it's not letter boxed and there is no supplemental material.
