I have owned nearly every iteration of air cooled VW, and that is definitely not a VW front end. It's not a beam axle, nor is it the MacPherson strut from the Super, which came out in 71 and I think would be too new for this car anyway.

Not the same brand..... probably a similar concept though. The car in question is a little newer, but not by much.
