If you had you a 400mm mounted to a FF D3, why use the noisier APS D300 for a long shot? 400 a fixed focal, too long? Just curious.....

Using the D300 with the 18-200 takes advantage of the full sensor (using it with the D3 you only get partial.)
The 400 is fixed and wouldn't have work as close as I was. I did get someone to snap a few shots for me where I originaly had it.

Not photographing the Pres but photography Yes, I am the Manager of the Photo lab here at the War College. I also got to photograph him in 2004 at his first visit to the War College on his Speech to the Nation about Iraq. I was able to move around a lot more then, I guess they were uptight about last weekends shoe incident
