Im a proud Boxer owner, and He gets mistaken for a pit all the time. I hate the sitgma attached to these dogs. People automatically assume that he's vicious when they see me walking him (which is good in some instances), but he's such a softy its rediculous.

That being said, I still think that the responsibility lies on the owner. Any dog can go "dog" under the right circumstances. Just like a weapon, dogs should be handled with care and in controlled environments. Its your job to make sure your dog is socialized and that he meets do so properly. Now, if someone invites trouble onto themselves, they should accept the consequences (e.g. taunting, not following owner instructions). After all, this is still a wolf at heart.

Sidenote: If we talk bans, ALL terriers were bred to kill...rats that is. I say we rid ourselves of those mean little Jack Russel bastards...

After reading all of the posts here and making my comments I am beginning to think maybe it is certain people that should be banned ? Better yet how about a litmust test to determine if a person should be , allowed to drive, have kids, own pets, own firearms etc etc. Boy would it help if only we had one.

Then again maybe we should stop supporting the people who commit the crimes and turn our attention to the victums, leave out all of the hubba about Urban Survival Syndrome, Cant get a Date Syndrome , and all of the others as they were made up by people proposing to be educated in the arena but what I find is that most of them only have a college degree and no direct experience , for example how can you tell me the best way to raise and discipline my kids when you have never had any???? I can only speak from my behalf, if the punishment for a crime was greater then maybe I would think more before committing it. And I firmly agree, anyone who in the act of committing a crime is caught and shot to death, in the back or otherwise, deserves the punnishment..

Off the band wagon now

Julian

I had a minature Schnauzer (a terrier) and its the only dog of all the various ones I've owned over the years that truly loved the family more than his food. RIP Gus.

By the way I see that you are in Prividence! I was born and raised there. I don't run into many from there, however.

Hope your weren't offended, as I was only joking. But I was watching a special on dogs and breeds and terriers are descendents of rat killers, hence the small stature and strong necks.

I am a Providence transplant...I've only been here a year and gotta say, I don't think I'll be around for a whole lot longer!

Well, the Big Dogs store took only a fraction of a day to send me a sale ad on this shirt,

and then this one came yesterday...

But I'm a fan of the classics; I'm still partial to the one about "If you're not the lead dog, the view's always the same".

Arrrgh, I'm going to BAN MY DOG - she just ripped out a dew claw trying to get just one inch closer to the family funtime in the pool next door. We're pricing replacement fencing right now. Shoulda done it when the other dog did it...how many hundred was it last time - I mean, the poor baby - it's a bloody mess, and of course it's Sunday!!
