Prius vs. Hummer...Environment
That's probably accurate on cost for the battery replacement.
E85 is no solution, IMHO. It causes a 25% drop in mpg, and this is in the best case scenario of a factory tuned Flex Fuel 2007 model year vehicle.
Check it out (scroll down to the ethanol flex fuel vehicles, you'll see two sets of EPA MPG estimates, one for E85 and one for gasoline, the E85 est's are about 25% lower accross the board):

Last time i looked when i was in Pittsburgh E85 was like 35 cents cheeper, and with the drop in fuel economy it would have to be 80 cents cheeper to make it worth it. As far as i can tell at this point in time the only cars on the market that are truly "progressive" are the VW TDI's with 50 mpg or better. And i don't know what is wrong with modern times when the do major things that use alot of everything including energy to do nothing more than raise "awareness." Say that it is to raise funds for the study and awareness, but just awareness is ridiculous and doesn't help anything b/c everyone wants some one else to to do it.
At present, I don't believe you will find it for $1.00 cheaper. Maybe a year ago, but not now.
I friend and neighbor each said it was 20-30 cents within the range of regular unleaded, all the way across the country (from recent trips).

How about that ethanol tuned Durango on the EPA list.... a big 9mpg city rating on ethanol.
This is because ethanol contains less energy than gasoline. No way around the laws of physics. Have to burn more of it to do the same work.
