Toyota

Developed at the Japanese maker's Calty Design Research Center in Newport Beach, California, the U2 adopts an extremely flexible architecture that allows for a wide range of cargo and seating configurations, a fold-back roof, even a tailgate that can turn into a ramp.

And styling that was specially designed to induce vomiting.

Funny, but if you squinch up your eyes just right, that critter could be a distant styling cousin to our beloved Trucklets.

Hate to say it, especially since it comes from that "T" company, but I like it.

When one looks at auto pedigree today there are already a good many cousins out there causing vehicles on the road to be easily confused for another. What ever happened to design originality?

I kinda like it. Don't think I'd ever own one. I think my 2 HHR panels will outlast me. But if I ever needed another panel and all of the HHR's are gone-Maybe? Wonder if they will be FWD or AWD?...john

A good point, especially in the case of HHR's and PT Cruiser's, they came out of the mind of the same designer.

Thankfully former GM chairman Bob Lutz thought the proposed design for a Cobalt station wagon was "butt friggin' ugly", and greenlighted production of our beloved Trucklets.
