I grew up in a record store, my parents ran one from 1964-1981, ah the good 'ol days. I still have roughly 18,000 LP's in my personal collection(not bragging, try moving those suckers!!), my favorites are the quadraphonic pressings from the 70's . Still have a JVC quad amp and turntable in mint condition, the quad pressing of Dark Side of The Moon is a mind blower.

Now that you mention it I sort of remember hearing "On The Run" in Quad.
It was in a very smoky room where we used to go for supplies in the 70s.
It was extraordinary in Quad IIRC

I feel bad for the kids these days, I mean I-pods and surround sound are OK, but nothing compares to quad. Mostly you just get blank looks when you even try to explain it, kinda like trying to explain Holley carbs and Posi-Traction to the Honda driving huge muffler crowd. Some days it can be cool being an old fart, so many things you remember that they can never experience.

Some kids get it.

There was a guy in his early twenties trying to trade Sabbath Vol 4 for my Master Of Reality tonight but I already have that.
He was also getting Bloody Sabbath.
A different record seller told me that Best Of The Doors on Quadrophonic LP regularly goes for over $40
Goldmine pricing guide lists it for $20 but it sells for twice that because stoners gotta have it.

Hey man, we're surrounded huh huh huh

Locally there's an 18 year old gas station attendant that goes to Clapton's Crossroads festival when he can and has seen Leslie West and Johnny Winter each numerous times.
His dad taught him about music.
My stepson's Russian friend collects vinyl and has tons of Zappa. He's 24

It's our responsibility as older generation to pass it along but when they just want to hear Eminem sing about a kick in the cun+ they're already lost.

Some classical virtuosity last night

Svjatoslav Richter ~ Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto #2 & 6 Preludes (1964 German Pressing)
The Preludes are the highlight, I like my Van Cliburn #2 better.

I slit the wrapper on this brand new 1983 Heifetz Tchaikovsky/Mendelssohn Teldec Audiophile ½ speed Mastered LP
If you've never heard Jascha Heifetz play and you love classical violin you need to get some Heifetz
Fritz Kreisler used to be my favorite violinist until I played this last night.
I have Heifetz playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto and it's a heartbreaker but this Tchaikovsky's even sweeter
He played this Mendelssohn on the same priceless 1742 Guarnerius that Ferdinand David used at the 1845 premiere.
The Mendelssohn's nice but the Tchaikovsky's one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.

Last but not haha Liszt was Earl Wild's The Daemonic Liszt (1968 Cardinal/Vanguard)

Nobody else plays vinyl and has a digicam?

Been on a Liszt kick.

I bought a 10 classical record lot off ebay awhile back.
Whoever owned it had too much time on his hands, lots of girly mags and some glue.
Last night:

I couldn't find any pix of the original cover but it's Philips 6500 043

Next up was Rhapsodies. Pretty much a waste of time but there's some pretty funny (and recognizable) Circus music on it

I was getting Liszt-ed out so next up was a nice Columbia 6 eye with no cover
CL 833 Andre Kostelanetz & His Orchestra - Bolero! [1956]

Ravel: Bolero
Rossini: William Tell-Overture/Wedding Dance from "William Tell"
Saint-Saans: Bacchanale From "Samson and Defile"
Berlioz: Dance Of The Sylphs From "Damnation of Faust"
Gounod: Waltzes From "Faust"
Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol. Op. 34

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Today:

My only copy of Totentanz (Dance of the Dead) on LP is on this OK Brendel LP

I like my CD copy of Zimmerman/Ozawa/Boston better

This Ashkenanzy record rocks and made a good soundtrack to the Rangers/Capitals game (with the sound off)

All that technical virtousity is great but I'm getting sick of it.
Clara Schumann called Liszt "Smasher of pianos"

Now I'm between sides of Heifetz' Beethoven Violin Concerto
