Water transfer printing

Has anyone seen this? The wife just showed me this video. If it holds up well the possibilities would be endless.

Yeah. Pretty neat.

I believe I recall seeing this a couple years ago on this site.( Pretty sure it was this site). There were a couple of members here that had this done to some interior parts. Carbo fiber look graphics is one I remember.
Looks like a neat way to spruce up the interior accents.

A search may turn up that old thread.

Orange County Choppers did this on at least one bike. They put a money transfer on the bike a couple of years ago.

This stuff has been around for years. If you look at my gallery, I think I have some pics of the work I had done on my HHR. I've also had parts done on another car of mine

There are a lot of hacks out there, when it comes to this process. There were a few others on this site and there were varying levels of quality of the work done.

Some of the shops use low grade clears, so you think everything looks great at first, then down the road it starts to yellow on you.

The biggest problem I've seen with this process, is that some "installers" don't get the film on the parts evenly and the pattern stretches or tears. When it stretches the pattern distorts and it really ruins the look. This will usually happen on a deep pocket or over larger curves. If you have this done, make sure you are in agreement upfront, that if this happens they will re-do the process. To many people settle for inferior work.

neat idea but, I did notice distorted lines on the carbon fiber , and the cost, I'll stick with powder coat or even rattle can paint. much less to repair a chip

If it's done correctly, you won't need to worry about chipping. It will be a lot more durable than a spray can and will be just as durable as the paint on your car.

that process has been around for years now. you can get almost any pattern and color you want as long as it fits in the tank.
