Who built models as a kid?

I haven't built a model car in ages but I did a lot when I was a kid! When I got into my teens I started getting a little fancier with carpet and painting the gauges and stuff. My grandfather bought me a B-29 Superfortress that I really dolled up. Even put fiberoptics in to light up the different parts of it.

Of course, back then model cars were $4-7 each. How do kids afford to build $26 models?

I started building truck and plane models back in my teens when most of them were made of wood. Strombecker was a model company back then(1940s!) I did the plastic kits well up into my 50s when I was home recuperating from various surgeries. I didn't know what to do with them after I built them though. So the planes all wound up hanging from my Son's bedroom ceiling, and a bunch of tank models eventually wound up in a drawer. My Son eventually gave everything to a friend when I sort of lost interest in the whole thing. Now, 20 years later, I have a huge collection of diecast models (Much to my Wife chagrin!!) Guess I got older, but I didn't grow up!

See what such things go for on eBay, then auction it off. You might have a real winner on your hands.
