Well, I had been looking at them for several month's. Then the truck was stolen and I used that money to buy the HHR. I wanted something with room for 4 (5 is a joke in it), that I could travel with if needed, got good mileage (the 16 with the 350 was killing me ). I like the looks, it does not look like everythink else going down the road like most others these days.

I'm gonna hate saying this, but I have to agree with Howdy. If you buy the HHR for performance, you have low exectations on performance.... THis is a heavy 4 banger, and since most but it with an auto, well, that says it all. No one serious for performance, out of a 4 banger, buys an auto. The HHR is a cruiser, not a hot rod. I don't care how many bolt ons you add. Can you make it seriously perform? To date, that answer seems to be no. There seem to be no aftermarket forced induction systems available yet. I'm sure there will be one day. Can you fool yourself into thinking you have a hot performer...... I hope not.

Accept the HHR for what it is and was meant to be and you won't be disappointed.

My hubby and I knew it was getting time to trade in his mustang for something newer before the mustang dug too deep in our pockets in repairs. We went to the chevy dealer to LOOK.
I really liked the cobalt sport that they had there...it was cute, black, loaded and in my price range....but....he is a big guy and didn't fit in it too well and the whole cranking the seat down thing....yuck.
Then we drove a little white HHR. I FELL IN LOVE!!! It was perfect for my PartyLite business and perfect to haul my daughter in on long trips. Not only that....it was SOOOOOO CUTE!!! Had to have it.
So, we left the mustang there at the dealer (only got a grand for it, but it was just getting old) and drove home in my new car! The trick has been keeping it clean and selling enough candles to keep the payments!

Strangely, no one has voted Performance, but I see threads about attempts and even questions about how to turn the HHR into a "MUSTANG KILLA".
Ok, I exagerate a bit, but some do want to modify the engine for more power, yet there were more powerful veh. available we they made the decision to buy a HHR.
Which makes me believe that the reason most people (so far 100%) bought their HHR was simply looks and economics.

I bought mine to cruise it with economy mileage. Not knocking those that are getting some performance out of theirs, but if I wanted performence I would have got the Impala SS. I still like to step on mine and it is more than adequate, But a V-8 350 its never going to be.

Honestly i didn't buy my HHR with the intent to mod it but the mod bug struck and now i want to put more power to the pavement in it. But come one a new Impala i could never buy, its so wrong to use the Impala name on a mid sized FWD econobox, let along making it an SS. The last true impala was built in 96 and i can't even look at the new ones as impalas.

I agree, But there really isnt much out there Chevy makes that I like. I have driven the new Impala and was impressed. Maybe they should put soemthing a little beefier in the Monte Carlo and I might have went that way. I have modded mine somewhat but with out a doubt I am very happy with where it is.
