Leslie Nielson passed away today, at the age of 84. Surely he will be missed, but please, don't call him Shirley.

Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: Roger, over!
Roger Murdock: What?
Captain Oveur: Huh?
Victor Basta: Who?

He was funny in Airplane! because he was never a comedian before that (having performed what others would have considered a full career in drama) - his straight delivery just made it all that much better! So lucky to have had two careers in show business, and we were so lucky to have been able to witness it! Yes, Shirley, he will be missed. Time to re-watch Forbidden Planet and Airplane!

I remember him playing the lead role in a tv program "Swamp Fox" back in '59/'60. It was a Disney series.
