1BadPig - You can pick up a legal copy of XP from any number of sources and just dump Vista.

SindyDix - If you do it to your own pc and not for profit, 99% of the things you might do are not illegal. It's my system to hack, stab, chop or any other mod to get it to do anything that I legally can do. The only "legal" issues I see anyone hopping around about are DRM related. And even that is hard to argue with if you legitimately own the DVD or CD and it's for your own use.

I just ordered a new HP with Vista Premium. I do a lot of photo work and looking forward to getting it. Should have it in about two weeks.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I finally received the upgrade CD's for both of my computers I purchased last November. Last post was made in February and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on upgrading to Windows Vista. Have you done it...do you like it? Would appreciate any feedback.

Deb, I upgraded from XP to Vista a while ago. I use it for all sorts of apps such as C++ compilers, graphics design programs, etc, and it's working very very well. The upgrade was easy and it actually auto-installed the drivers for all of my hardware.

I've had very few compatibility issues, either hardware or software.

It gets my personal recommendation.

One of the compatability issues I heard of was with the I-Pod. Has anybody had any probs with theirs?

I've heard of the same issue. I use a Dell mp3 player, though, and haven't had any issues.

My iPod works great with Vista. I hadn't planned on getting Vista, it came with my new laptop computer. The OS has really grown on me. Easier navigation, clean looking, and seems more stable than XP. The compatibility issues are all but gone now unless you have some really old peripherals. Also, there are Vista drivers out there for some older stuff that will make some things still work, but they are not put out by M$. Websearch is your friend in those cases. Besides, did you really want to keep using that 10 year old printer when new ones are almost free nowadays?

I'll stay with my Linux , PCLINUX has been very good . I f you take the time to read the different software forums there are very few people satisfied with Vista. My computer is way faster with Linux then Windows and all the software in my pc is free ! No more virus's no spyware and no blue screen of death. Not many games for linux but I don't need my PC for games. You can try Linux for free and there are lots of different distro's to try. I'm not a pc expert and I had to figure out how to use Linux but its not that hard to do . There are alot of forums for help.

I upgraded to Mac in 98. Best upgrade ever!

Actually I am using Vista on a laptop right now. There is no compelling reason to upgrade to vista. It is more like XP SP3. If it comes with a new computer that is fine but if you have a working XP box, save your money.

I still would not give up my Mac Vista is just a bad shameless copy. I have used Linux as well and while I think it is a great server platform. it still has a little ways to go in the easy to use department. if it wants to make it on the desktop.
