My first car was a 68 RS camaro inline 6 and 2- speed powerglide bought it from a 70 Yo man after he put it into a ditch at 50MPH paid 75 bucks for it drove it to High School for 2 years till it died and was replaced by a '77 Camaro that my Mother hated she said it was way to much power for a 17 YO kid....LOL

Man a straight six and a Powerglide in an RS, the ones nobody ever kept. My Mustang buddy tells me there is a kind of movement to preserve and restore the "grocery getter" cars without the usual rip out the guts and cram a V-8 into it deal. I have my eye on a Chevy II with a four and 'glide, its original and unmolested, and so rare because they were all junked or converted. Now I just have to come to an agreement on price, we've been going back and forth for a year.

1967 VW Beetle in black /w red interior. It was the 1st year with a 12V elec system and the 1500cc engine (up from 1300cc in 1966). Last year that had the bumper overriders. Mine had wheels from a Porsche 912 and Koni shocks.

1970 Plymouth Road Runner, 383, 4 speed, banana yellow with black vinyl top and interior. The only options were AM radio, factory tachometer, air grabber hood, chrome road wheels, and sure grip (posi) rear axle. No power steering, no power brakes, no A/C. Just pure muscle. I sure miss that car!!

Oh those olden golden memories.....At 12 years old I started on mini bikes, home made frame with a B/S (Briggs and Stratton) taken off a lawn mower. Then at 14 got my "motorcycle" license, went to Sears with my paper route money and bought an Allstate 250cc. Turned out it was to much horse power. (You could only have 125cc / 5HP or less till you were 16) Traded it for a Yamaha 65 with a step thru. (tank under the seat) That wasn't cool, so I traded it in at the local Susuki shop on th Yellow 90cc trail/street...
What a blast....Went thru 3 sets of "stubby" tires before I sold that bike.
But that was regressing past the question....
At 16 my first car was a 1963 T-Bird, paid $350.00...Gold, 2 door, Auto, Electric windows and a "Tilt A-Way" steering wheel. I liked the car, but is sure wasn't a hot-rod. Plus it was a pain to work on, U had to undo the motor mount and jack up the engine to change the back passenger side spark plug. 3 mounths and one tune up and that car was history. Sold it for $500.00 and bought a 1963 Chevy Impala 2 door, 283 atuo ($400.00).....WHAT a fun car, with the extra money I changed the 2 bl/carb out with a factory set up 4/bl, manifold and all. Put on some chrome valve covers. Installed headers and dual exhaust. (all bought from the local salvage) Put "air" shocks on for that "jacked up" look with chrome wheels and Baby Moon hubcaps and N50's tires on the rear...That little car would screech the tires in EVERY gear when the auto trans shifted....
But that was a dozen motorcycles, afew dozen cars and vans and a couple of speed boats ago......Thats it for my rambling, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL, and may next year bring us all a lot of good cheer....Ohnomobile (Rick)

When I was 11 I bought a long bed 1973 Dodge Club Cab for $150. It had a slant six, three on the tree, manual steering and manual brakes. I put a lot of miles on that truck around the farm and my cousin's property. When I was 15 I upgraded to a 1973 Jeep Commando. My brother bought the Dodge for $100, and drove it to work for 2-3 more years before it finally died.
